History Of General Hospital, Gbagada

General Hospital, Gbagada (GHGB), was established on Tuesday, 27th September, 1983 by the then Governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande, during the second republic. The Hospital is strategically located at the T-junction of 3 (Three) major expressways; Victoria Island through 3rd Mainland Bridge, Lagos – Ibadan Expressway, and Badagry/Apapa Oshodi Expressway.

This makes the hospital easily accessible throughout the length and breadth of Lagos State.

In all, the hospital has about thirty-five departments, which includes a veritable Burns and Trauma tertiary center supervised by Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH); a maternal and paediatric department, as well as, Public Private Partnership (PPP) initiative Cardio Renal Centre, amongst others within the premises.

At the helm of the hospital management is Dr. BABAFEMI.J.O, who is assisted in the running of the hospital operation’s, is a vibrant and proactive Health Management Committee supported by highly effective and efficient Doctors, Nurses, Pharmacists, Support and Administration Staff.

The hospital which covers an area of 11.3 hectares also has spacious parking spaces, and has 24 hours power supply.

We have an array of shops catering for the basic needs of visitors, patients and staff to the hospital.

For the convenience of visitors to the hospital, we have two functional and always clean public toilets strategically placed for both male and female visitors. This is in addition to toilets in the various departments of the hospital.

The hospital also boasts of one of the best mortuary services (privately run) in the state.

PROFILE OF DR. BABAFEMI OLUSEGUN JOSEPH

MD. Dr. Olusegun Joseph Babafemi, was born on 13th April 1966. He had his primary education in both Kogi and Oyo States and secondary education in Titcombe College, Egbe. He graduated from University of Ilorin in 1990, where he received awards as the best graduating doctor in Neuropsychiatry and Community Medicine. He had his medical housemanship training at University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital ,Ilorin and did his NYSC scheme in General Hospital, Ikeja ( now LASUTH). He started his medical career in 1992 at Lagos Chest clinic, later worked at Mainland Hospital, Yaba, as Medical Officer from where he proceeded to LUTH for residency program. He bagged the fellowship of National Postgraduate Medical College (Nephrology) in 2008. He worked in General Hospital Gbagada between 2005 and 2017, as Senior Registrar and later Consultant Nephrologist. Dr. Babafemi was appointed as Medical Director, Agbowa General Hospital, in July 2017, where he supervised notable service expansion in the hospital which included; establishment of functional Paediatrics unit, setting up of radiology unit, commencement of ultrasound services, setting up of cardiovascular lab and starting of HDU, among other achievements. He had training on advances in dialysis and kidney transplant, both at University Hospital, Magdeburg, Germany and Lister Hospital, Stevenage, UK. He is a fellow of International Society of Nephrology. He has also attended Leadership Academy of Daystar Christian center, and leadership and Management course in HLA Africa. He is an alumnus of Leadership Management in Health care, University of Washington.
He is a Christian, married to Oluwatoyin, and their union is blessed with children
